A whole day dedicated to YOU? Sound too good to be true? It’s real. It’s SELF CARE SUNDAY, and it’s totally within your reach! 

I’m glad you’re here. You need a special space in time, just for you, to replenish your energy. You deserve to rest, pamper yourself and de-stress. 

Let’s get started by talking about the benefits of Self Care Sunday, then brainstorm some ideas of what you can do, and finally, discuss how to make Self Care Sunday a routine in your life.

Self Care Sunday Benefits


What is Self Care Sunday and what are its benefits? Self Care Sunday is a day devoted entirely to you! A day to relax, recharge and let go of stress. Do as little or as much as you want, as long as your activities bring you joy and feed your mind, body and soul. 

According to the article, What is Self Care and Why is it Important For You?, “Engaging in a self-care routine has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, improve energy, and more.” Hallelujah!

50 Self Care Sunday Ideas


Start by thinking about what you would do if you had a whole day dedicated to your self care. This isn’t a fantasy, girl. Get out some paper and a pen and dream big. What activities bring you joy?

Here are some ideas for Self Care Sunday:

  1. Sleep in
  2. Have breakfast in bed
  3. Read the newspaper on your porch
  4. Make a delicious brunch 
  5. Head outside for some fresh air and sunshine
  6. Take a mindful walk in nature
  7. Meditate
  8. Journal 
  9. Go out to lunch with friends
  10. Pamper yourself in your favorite way
  11. Take a bath
  12. Get a mani-pedi 
  13. Get a massage
  14. Paint, draw or color
  15. Go to a movie
  16. Read a great book
  17. Cook a healthy meal
  18. Find some water: a lake, river or the ocean
  19. Go to a museum 
  20. Garden or plant flowers 
  21. Play a musical instrument
  22. Go to the farmer’s market
  23. Spend time with furry friends
  24. Take a nap
  25. Put on some music and dance
  26. Stretch, do yoga
  27. Go for a swim
  28. Bake something yummy 
  29. Call an aunt, uncle or cousin
  30. Sit and do nothing 
  31. Do breath work

Self Care Sunday Routine 


Barriers & Boundaries


Now that we’ve discussed the benefits and some ideas for Self Care Sunday, we need to tackle the hardest part: barriers and boundaries! 

Barriers are obstacles that will get in your way and try to prevent you from executing Self Care Sunday. The list is endless but here are some examples:

  • Kids, partners
  • Family commitments
  • Social obligations 
  • Work stuff
  • To-do lists
  • Guilt 

How to break through these barriers? By setting boundaries with yourself and others! First, put Self Care Sunday on your calendar with permanent ink. Next, let your family and friends know that you are busy that day. Explain how important these plans are to you and your wellbeing. 

Make a Plan


And finally, make a plan that is set in stone. The more specific and detailed, the better.

Here’s an example:

  • This Sunday, April 30, is Self Care Sunday!
  • It will begin at 9am and end at 7pm
  • I will do activities that bring me joy and feed my soul
  • I will let myself relax 
  • I will not feel guilty

Be Flexible


What if you’ve looked at your barriers and boundaries and still can’t dedicate an entire day to self-care? Be flexible, because this is your reality and you are not alone! Mostly likely you are a  care-giver, and though you desperately need a day to yourself, it’s just not possible. 

Come up with a Plan B. Figure out how much time you can dedicate to Self Care Sunday and put the plan into action, even if it’s just an hour or a morning. Hire a babysitter or replacement care-giver and make it happen. You can do it! 

Make it a Routine


Unfortunately in our harried lives, few of us ever actually dedicate whole days to taking care of ourselves. But once you get a taste of how good it feels, you’ll be hooked.
