  • Self-care is taking some time each day to do an activity that relaxes you, feeds your soul, rejuvenates your mind and body

  • During this time, it is crucial that you mindfully set an intention to let go of stress and worries

  • Neglect of self-care can produce negative feelings and resentment

Self Care and Mental Health 

Self-care has been shown to help improve and balance mental health by reducing stress, increasing energy and motivation and reducing risk of chronic illness. Even a few moments a day dedicated to self-care can have positive effects on your mental health.

What are affirmations?

An affirmation is a positive phrase meant to reinforce or affirm something that you want to bring into your life. The affirmation should make you feel joy, love and gratitude. 

Affirmations should always be in positive terms. For example, you don’t want to say “I am free of pain,” because the universe will hear pain and might deliver more. Say “I want to be strong and healthy.”

Affirmations should also be said in the present tense, as if they are already real and true in your life. 

The more you repeat the affirmations, the more likely they will become your reality, so find a time each day that you can devote to positive affirmations. 

How can you use affirmations

  1. Morning Affirmations– A great time to do affirmations is in the morning when your mind is clear. Repeat the affirmations until you can truly feel and believe them in your heart.
  2. Meditation– Include positive affirmations in your daily meditation practice. Spend some time with the affirmations. What do they mean to you? 
  3. Mirroring– Look into a mirror and repeat the affirmations while looking into your eyes. How do the affirmations make you feel? 
  4. Journaling– Write down the affirmations and expand on them in your journal. What issues do the affirmations bring up?
  5. Daily Affirmations– Repeat the affirmations throughout the day whenever you think of it. You might even set an alarm to help you remember. The more you repeat the positive affirmations, the more chance they have to ring true in your life.
